-Script inaccuracies, leading to a shitstorm of idiocy in terms of dubtards using dub quotes in Versus debates. -Lack of authentic emotion from the voice actors until the more recent works such as Kai. -Adding in unnecessary dialogue. -Toning down dialogue at points, such as a few instances involving Roshi saying perverted things. I honestly don't get where all the hate for Nozawa's voice acting comes from, just because it's a woman voicing him. Nozawa does an excellent job at showcasing the key attributes of his character; naivety and his free-spirited nature. Schemmel's voice is more suited to showing Goku's serious and determined side in comparision and whilst he does do a good job at the naïve nature of Goku, it isn't quite as naturalistic as Nozawa's. Also, Goku having such a voice also gives off the sense of "not judging a book by it's cover" by making him seem less intimidating than he actually is, which fits quite well with the majority of enemies he faces underestimating him by some degree. Not just that, but by saying Nozawa being cast as Goku is a bad idea, you're basically saying Toriyama's clueless on Goku's actual character, given that he chose her himself. I myself have never understood the issue with Nozawa either. I think she herself brings another dimension to that character. |

It's just, I cannot picture Jap Goku as a male with that voice. Hell, I have no idea what she says, but that god awful tone. :/ |

So? Plenty of characters from other series have female seiyuu, yet still present enough masculine features to make such obvious, for example, Luffy, Naruto and Kenshin. The only times in which Nozawa's tone seems bad is during "power up scream" scenes. Other than that, she does a perfect job at showing Goku's naïve nature, whilst also showing a heavy contrast in that and his serious tone. |
